The European Parliament questioned Viviane Reding in hearings for her portfolio of Fundamental Rights. Ms Reding the nominee from Luxembourg performed well, but Parliament raised concerns over the split between Home Affairs and Fundamental Rights. Claude Moraes MEP is the Socialists & Democrats Group Spokesperson on Justice & Home Affairs and said "Viviane Reding is an experienced navigator in EU waters and there is no doubt that she is a skilled performer, although she was more convincing on legal affairs than fundamental rights and women. Indeed, the question of the overlap between the two portfolios for Justice & Home Affairs remains to be answered".
