Video: Hearings on New European Commission

The European Parliament has held hearings for each proposed European Commissioner. The Parliament has the power to reject a new Commission and has previously used this power to force some Commissioner Designates to withdraw their candidacies. After January's Strasbourg session, 26 out of 27 proposed Commissioners were approved. Only the Bulgarian nominee withdrew after Parliament voiced significant concerns. Bulgaria will now nominate a new Commissioner and that nominee will also be subject to a hearing before the whole Commission can be officially sworn in.
