Claude Moraes MEP launches a European Parliament Report on Immigration, Integration and Employment at a conference called by the Party of European Socialists in Milan.

A special conference on immigration and asylum was held by the Party of European Socialists in Milan to mark the start of the Italian Presidency of the European Union. The PES chose migration as one of the key political issues which will run through the next six months of the presidency. After being interviewed on BBC World and the Italian TV station 'RAI Uno' Claude introduced the report that he will be steering through the European Parliament, saying:

"It is vital that we maintain the political courage to tackle the sensitive issues of immigration, asylum and the integration of both new and settled ethnic minorities within the EU.

I am delighted to be the European Parliament Rapporteur for this report which will look at the delicate issues of immigration, employment and integration. It will assess just how much immigration the EU needs and look at the related issue of integration, so that we can create the best possible conditions for host societies, a strong economy and the needs of new and settled immigrants."

Note - The Commission Communication on Immigration, Integration and Employment will be discussed in the European Parliament on the 9th of July and will be voted on in Strasbourg in December.
