Committee Report April 2010

This month, the LIBE Committee discussed its priorities with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union (EU) as well as with Commissioners Reding and Malmström regarding Justice and Home Affairs.

The LIBE Committee also voted on proposals to ensure the right to interpretation and translation for people accused of a crime in another EU country. The Committee also debated a possible readmission agreement with Pakistan, and met with the UN High Commisisoner for Refugees, António Guterres. 

Committee Report March 2010

In March, MEPs on the Justice & Home Affairs Committee discussed measures to block websites that show child abuse. The Committee discussed other measures to protect minors such as the European Commission suggestion that EU wide criminal sanctions could be used to ensure that the threat from paedophiles in the internet is dealth with at member state level. MEPs on the Justice Committee also debated proposals to help stop people trafficking and on Passenger Name Records transfers to third countries. 

Committee Report February 2010

The LIBE Committee debated and voted on the SWIFT Data transfer deal in February, an agreement between the EU and US on the transfer of personal financial data. The Justice Committee also discussed the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights, support for the anti-discrimination Directive and an  important EU wide resettlement programme for refugees.

Committee Report January 2010

In January, the LIBE Committee voted on the nominations of proposed Euroipean Commissioners Viviane Reding and Cecilia Malmstrom. MEPs also discussed Frontex, the EUs border agency, as well as a vote on the proposed new Justice & Home Affairs EU budget.

Committee Report December 2009

December 2009 saw MEPs on the LIBE Committee discusst he implementation of the Lisbon Treaty. LIBE also discussed asylum, people trafficking, data protection and how to better combat terrorist financing. 

Committee Report November 2009

In November, MEPs debated key issues relating to the impact of the Lisbon Treaty, reform of Europol, EU Drugs Agency Annual Report, and sanctions against Zimbabwe and Somalia among other issues.
