Background

The Europe Reform Treaty is being drafted and is likely to be signed until the end of the current year.

The Treaty is not an automatic replacement for the EU Constitutional Treaty signed in Rome on 29 October 2004; it is a reduced document based on the previous one. The controversial aspects were removed while adding more dynamic with the necessary adjustments to cope with a European Union of 27 member States.

To obtain a copy of the draft Treaty you can download a PDF here [http://www.fco.gov.uk/Files/kfile/CM6429_Treaty.pdf], or call the Foreign and Commonwealth Office?s European Directorate on 020 7270 1500.

Alternatively, the UK Office of the European Parliament has prepared an easy-to-consult internet version of the text of the Treaty available here [http://www.europarl.org.uk/constitution/ConstitutionSingleMain.htm]
