8 July 2005London Bombings - Statement by Claude Moraes MEP and comments on Sky News and other media outlets.
"As a
London MEP and Londoner I fully endorse the powerful statement made by
Mayor Ken Livingstone yesterday morning that this attack targeted
ordinary Londoners and visitors to London on the bus and tube. It did
not target the powerful, but Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Jews,
Sikhs and every other background of ordinary London
citizen. It was indiscriminate and its only effect, apart from causing
misery to many, is to detract from the war on poverty which was on the
agenda of the G8. It is vitally important that we all understand and
condemn the nature of this terrorism. We need to make every effort to
preserve community relations. All backgrounds and beliefs must stand
together against indiscriminate killing. Londoners are resilient and
will emerge stronger from this tragedy."
A book of condolence has been
opened by the Mayor Ken Livingstone for Londoners to pay their respects
following the attacks on 7 July. You can add your message by emailing condolence@london.gov.uk.
