Today Claude Moraes MEP spoke in Strasbourg on a report to strengthen
protection for workers against asbestos. He raised the practicalities
of implementing the legislation in the UK and flagged up the concern about
the levels of asbestos present in the candidate countries for EU membership.

Claude Moraes MEP welcomes the new industrial noise protection agreement
On 5th December 2002, the European parliament adopted new legislation
improving workers' protection against noise. The Directive sets a maximum
level of noise to which workers may be exposed.

Information and Consultation Directive voted through the European Parliament
This important Directive was agreed by the European Parliament
today. I was a member of the conciliation (negotiating) team and throughout
the process I liaised and reported to the TUC, Ministers, business organisations
and London trade unions including Amicus, NATFHE and the RMT.
