All-Party Group on Ageing and Older People

European Parliament’s Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity

Founded in 1982, the European Parliament’s Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity brings together MEPs who have an interest in discussing the challenges that ageing poses.

The Intergroup Group wants to find sustainable and fair solutions for all of Europe’s citizens.

In the last parliamentary term, over 35 MEPs - representing most of the Member States and all the political parties – supported the Intergroup on Ageing.

Aims of the Intergroup

To provide a forum for discussion and action by MEPs on specific issues relevant to older people

To provide regular opportunities for MEPs to exchange views on policies affecting older people with representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Ministers, European NGOs and other relevant bodies

To ensure that the interests of older people are reflected in EU programmes and policies

To raise awareness on older people’s needs within the European institutions

Meetings

Three or more Intergroup meetings are organised per year, and during plenary sessions in Strasbourg additional meetings are held in Brussels

Attendance at Intergroup meetings is open to all MEPs, assistants, Parliament staff, the press and the public

Meetings decide new Intergroup initiatives and debate or provide information on current EU issues facing older people

European Commission officials are invited to be present at all meetings to allow an exchange of information on relevant actions
