MEPs voted to reject the US-EU SWIFT agreement on the transfer of financial data to the United States in the fight against international terrorism.

Despite intense lobbying from member states and senior US administration officials, MEPs were concerned over disproportionate nature of the agreement and a lack of proper safeguards.

Claude Moraes MEP, is the Group Spokesperson for the Socialist & Democrats in the European Parliament on Justice & Home Affairs Matters. Claude Moraes, speaking from Strasbourg said; "members of the the Socialist Group are absolutely committed to the fight against terrorism.”
